There are a couple of special basketball evenings this week. Make that extra special.
First, in Southbury, the Pomperaug High girls host their second Play for Kay fundraiser to raise money for cancer research through the Kay Yow Cancer Foundation, Inc., named for the former N.C. State women’s coach who died from cancer in 2009.
Pomperaug rolled out Play for Kay in 2017 when girls coach Joe Fortier’s wife, Sue, was diagnosed with breast cancer. We are thrilled to note that the event webpage tells us: “Sue Fortier kicked cancer’s butt!!”
That does not mean the fight is over. It is never over. It continues Tuesday at Sippy Gymnasium at the 7 p.m. game against Bunnell.
